This workshop was conducted in September with some participating NGOs. It yielded 2 main objectives: to update the status of cetacean research in Costa Rica and to develop a joint strategy for the coming years taking into account certain conservation priorities.
Buenos Aires Group-IWC
In direct response to the whaling countries who disapprove the International Whaling Commission global moratorium on commercial whaling, thirteen countries in Latin America and the Southern Hemisphere, including Costa Rica, consolidated the Buenos Aires Group in 2005. This group holds its fifth meeting in Costa Rica during Nov. 10-13, 2008. On this occasion, more than 30 NGO”s signed the attached joint statement, such Keto and the Costa Rican Coalition for the Whales.
Interchange and Learning Workshop-TNC
KETO Foundation participated in the Interchange and Learning Workshop, for environmental NGO’s, partners of The Nature Conservancy (TNC). This time, the Osa, PILA and Marine Programs shared conservation experiences from Costa Rica and Panama (November 17-9 2008).
