The first dissemination meeting at Drake Bay was on March 26th, 2005. It was for the general public from Drake Bay’s community. This was an informative meeting, in which our two projects (from researchers Andrea Montero-Cordero and Damian Martinez-Fernandez) were explained to the attendees: captains, local tourist guides, tourists, students and housewives. All of them left information to be contacted about future workshops
This year, we will be able to continue with this effort through our project called:
Marine Biology Educational Workshops in Drake Bay Community, Costa Rica
General Objwctive: To partner with Drake Bay community by doing dissemination workshops where people could learn more about new marine decrees and biological facts, which could result in RESPONSIBLE and substantial tourism
In previous meetings coordinated by 2 biologists from KETO, tourist guides from AGUINADRA (Naturalist Drake Bay Guides’ Association) showed interest in meetings that involve marine themes (cetaceans, coral reefs, fishes) of which they want to learn more about. Besides obtaining research results, our projects seek to make people aware of marine conservation by using experts in the field of marine biology. We want to take marine specialists to them, so one biologist from KETO will be in the meetings along with a specialist from a different professional area, other than turtles or cetaceans (e.g. environmental lawyers, coral-reef biologists, etc.) that could assist in each of the workshops
