How can we help a turtle found in the following situations:
First try to find an expert or someone related to the field. If this is not possible, try the following:
Tangled in a fishing net or trapped in plastic waste
Plastic, tapes, nylon or nets found should be cut as soon as possible. These materials can cause death by asphyxia if it is around the neck or doesn’t allow swimming. Loss of limbs can be caused by stopping blood circulation.
With hooks or nylon in their mouth or throat
Hooks have to be removed since they can cause death. The way to do this is to push it towards the inside of the mouth until it is exposed, proceed to cut it and then extract the part that remains inside. Never pull out the entire hook; it can cause serious injury to the animal.
With flotation or respiration problems
Place the turtle upside down and press the plastron with both hands. It can aslo be placed on an inclined surface so that the tale is higher than the head. If the respiratory problem is caused by plastics, try to extract them slowly to avoid leaving small pieces inside the animal.
BE CAREFUL, TURTLES BITE!
YOUR SAFETY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.
